Aluminum Extrusion: Advantages of a Material Known for Its Durability

Aluminum extrusion is the shaped form of aluminum in different molds. Various aluminum extrusion profiles can be manufactured by this process. The extrusion process takes place by heating aluminum into a specific form and then shaping the material by passing it through a die and pushing it through a hole. Cooling is done with air or water during the extrusion process. At the end of this process, the aluminum material takes the form of the mold and various aluminum profiles are obtained. All products produced by Era Aluminum are known for their long-term durability in the market.

How is Aluminum Extrusion Made?

Aluminum profile extrusion is done using presses. As the carrying capacity of the presses increases, the billet diameters become larger and as a result, the maximum mold sizes increase. In profile extrusion manufacturing, the mold is primarily used to achieve the desired shape. After this stage, the aluminum billet is heated and forced into the mold with the help of a steel piston. After the extrusion process is completed, the aluminum is placed on a long table to be transported to the cooling area.

The extrusion process can be carried out cold or hot and cooling water or air is used during the process. After cooling, the shaped aluminum extrusion profile is straightened and then placed in aging furnaces for heating and hardening.

Aluminum Extrusion Properties

The advantages of extruding aluminum properties are quite diverse and have a wide range of uses in various industries. Some of the advantages of this system can be summarized as follows:

  • Aluminum profiles are significantly lighter than profiles made of steel and iron materials. This facilitates transportation and assembly processes.
  • Resistant to adverse weather conditions and gases. This feature makes aluminum preferred for outdoor applications.
  • Since aluminum is a good conductor, profiles manufactured by the aluminum extrusion method are strong conductors. This makes it particularly ideal for use in electrical applications.
  • Aluminum profiles have an elastic structure and are resistant to sudden impacts. This increases the durability of the profile.
  • Aluminum extrusion has a very wide range of applications. It is preferred in many different sectors from energy to construction, transportation to industrial applications.
  • Aluminum extrusion profiles, which are produced using extrusion dies in different shapes, have a wide range of products. Thus, it offers flexibility for different requirements.
  • Aluminum products have an attractive appearance in exterior architecture and are therefore frequently preferred in architectural designs.

In addition, aluminum is resistant to corrosion. This ensures the long life of the products and reduces the need for maintenance. In this respect, it is especially important in outdoor applications.
